An iconic study of Imperial coins and medals of the RomanEmpire based on the collection of Cardinal Gasparo di Carpegna.Antiquary, Filippo Buonarroti (1661-1733), a great grand-nephew ofMichelangelo, had served as the Cardinal's secretary, conservator andlibrarian in Rome from 1684-1699 and was a prominent Florentine antiquaryand politician. The thirty-eight medal plates were engraved by FrancescusAndreoni; the title-page, frontispiece and decorations by Pietro SantoBartoli.
