Those rivers include amongst others the Seine, Meuse, Rhine, Ems, Weser and the Elbe, no to mention canal systems of the Low Countries and North Germany. 21 Army Group on the left flank of the Allied Armies had to cross all those river nearest to their mouth and, therefore, where they were widest.". The book mainly discusses matters religious but does contain some account of the details of day to day life in Halifax during this period.
