The delightful woodcuts represent the fifty-three lodging stations andvicinities along the Tokaido, or ancient national road from Tokyo to Kyoto,the ancient capital of Japan.

His martyrdom is noted as a major factor in extending the Reformation in Scotland. An appendix is a biography of James Beaton (1517-1603), archbishop of St. Andrew's, responsible for the burning of Hamilton and other heretics.
