The author was a judge and referee for the National Sporting Club as well as boxing professionally. He describes many of the British boxing greats: Fitzsimmons, Driscoll, Jackson, Collins, May, Bowker - as well as writing of his Royal Air Force service in World War One in the Handley Page bomber.

Longman, Hurst, Rees, & Orme. 1812., sm4to, 24cm, reprint of 1807 edition, in 3 volumes, [viii], 633, & 594 & 504,pp., index, decorated engraved title-pages, with 66 engraved plates (complete as listed), in contemporary full polished calf rebacked, blind and gilt decorations in the panels with the original double red and green labels relayed, wide gilt and blind decorated borders on the boards, gilt inner dentelles, gilt stag decoration on the covers, marbled endpapers and edges, some slight foxing on some plates, no printed title pages apparently as issued, a fine attractive bound set. (spg) ~ A very popular English sporting book of the early 1800's by the Reverend William Barker Daniel (1754-1833), noted as being a much more involved sportsman rather than in his calling as a cleric. Volume I has chapters on the hunting dog, fox, stag, hare, rabbit, martin, badger, otter and game laws. Volume II dedicated to fishing and fish of all kinds. Volume III involves the hunting of all kinds of birds, with chapters on retrievers, target shooting and guns. With an impressive collection of engravings particularly of dogs, fish and birds. Signed bindings "C. Sully, Bookbinder, Soho". With the fox-hunting book-plates of Viola T. Winmill (1891-1925) of Virginia: foxhunt rider, coach driver and race horse owner. A supplement was issued in 1813.
