(cmt) Hackett p.191. Cooke p142. Wallace, DCB p530. - The author was editor-in-chief of the Ottawa Citizen until 1912. He joined the Canadian militia as an artillery subaltern in 1898 and from 1899 to 1901 he saw service in South Africa, in D Battery of the Royal Canadian artillery. As well, he served throughout the whole of the first Great War, and from 1916 to 1919 he was general officer commanding the Canadian artillery.

A photostated copy of a very scarce Royal Canadian Engineers history originally published in Zwolle, Holland in 1945 as a souvenir for members of the unit. The Battalion, formed in Camp Borden in June 1940, served in North-west Europe and constructed airdromes and bridges.
