Longford in 1728 and was educated Athlone and Edgeworthstown. He ran away from TCD 1744, but returned. He later graduated with a dubious degree in Medicine from studies in Edinburgh and Leyden, and after traveling in Europe he returned to London where he failed as a doctor. He turned to literature becoming a friend of Dr Johnson and his 'Club'.
