Published inthe First World War: "In time of war a thorough knowledge of thegeography is of prime importance." (Preface). Geologist andpaleontologist, Henry M. Ami (1858-1931) was a staff member of theGeological Survey of Canada from 1882 to 1912.

"A very rare privately printed pamphlet dealing with the French offers to cede to Britain the territories of Nova Scotia, Hudson's Bay and the Straits, Newfoundland and St. Christopher. The author puts the case for the British title to all these as well as the fishing rights off Newfoundland. An important and contemporary document on the contest for naval power in the New World"--O'Dea. Relates considerably to the fact that the French receive back Cape Breton and Nova Scotia, and England to have sole right to Newfoundland. The writer shows that England has the prior right to Nova Scotia, and also the danger of having the French at Cape Breton and so near the Newfoundland coast.

No other standard references located, including T.P.L., Lande, Howes, etc. No auction records or other reference located for this English edition. - Urbain Chevreau (1613-1701), French dramatist and critic provided one of the first world histories. "Such a compleat, but suc-cinct uni-versal History is, I think, wanting in our Langu-age; Sir Walter Raleigh ends with the Grecian Monarchy." (Translator). The first English edition is translated from the third Paris edition, revised and enlarged by the author. "History" ends with the discovery of the New World and includes descriptions of Labrador, Newfoundland, New France, Virginia, Florida and the West Indies. Includes bibliographical references and index.

As an Officer of the 15th Foot Regiment, Dashwood left C ork for St. John, N.B. where he was stationed from 1862 until 1868. He was an enthusiastic sportsman who spent his leaves hunting; in 1868 he made an expedition to Newfoundland to shoot caribou. The present title combines inf ormation on game, hunting equipment, and on methods of hunting with passing comments on the country and a well-told account of his hunting experiences . The main title is the Millicite word for the stick on which the kettle i s suspended over the camp fire. Story p210. Rhodenizer p65.
